The last 6 weeks have been pretty much a whirlwind for me. I have been riding Plezant more, which take a lot of time. My heart horse Frisby, well, we had to put him down. His Cushing’s was worsening, and he got to the point where it hurt him to walk. So all he would do is stand in his stall. It broke my heart. Almost as much as it broke my heart to make the decision that it was time to say good bye.

He will definitely be missed. And there is now a hole in my heart. But thankfully, each day seems to be getting a little bit easier. Not something fun to handle on top of the holidays, right?
I feel like I am getting a handle on all of it, and getting ready to wind down a bit, and really settle into winter. finally.
Three Things That Make My Horse Happier
And as the seasons change, and I end up having a lot more inside time than out, I will have a LOT more time to write and make videos. Which is a good thing, it’s just getting back in the swing of it!
And as I start to slow down and settle a bit, I thought I would share three things that make my horse happy. Well, I think it helps in his happiness.

Plezant’s Princess Sheet
When I first brought Plezant home, and the temperature started dipping in the early mornings of fall, I was shocked to see when I went out to feed Plezant, he was shivering. I have never had a horse do this before. But a couple of times the temperature dropped down to 38 degrees, and the first time I noticed him shivering, it alarmed me. I felt so bad for him!
So I did what any good horse mom would do, I brought him inside my house. Not really! I’m kidding, I’m kidding.
But seriously, I bought a lightweight blanket. It’s called a chill chaser blanket. And if it were made for people, I would love it for myself. Not too heavy, but enough to add a little bit of warmth. It’s a nice in between blanket. Meaning when it’s too warm for a true blanket, this is a great solution.

And even though the blanket isn’t on sale anymore, I think it’s worth the $69 price tag. And Dover’s even has a storefront on Amazon now too. So you can find these blankets on Amazon, and get it shipped to you even faster. Oh, and they don’t jack up the price either.
Yeah, it’s kind of pink. But Plezant doesn’t care. He is cozy in this sheet, and the 84 fits him better. But this is why I call it his princess sheet. He gets this sheet on once the temperature dips below 40 degrees. And it has held up really well too. I use it in the early fall as well as late spring when it can still get a little chilly.
Three Things That Make My Horse Happy
I have read reviews that the sheet shrinks. So I try and wash it minimally. But in the end, it gives my horse a little bit of extra warmth, and keeps him clean at night in his stall. Which is an added bonus for me.
I am lucky that he doesn’t mind blankets. I think he like them. He doesn’t fuss at all with his blankets, like Frisby used too.

Frisby HATED blankets. So while Plezant has a complete wardrobe of blankets from light sheets to parka’s, Frisby only had 2 blankets that would be used for severe weather only.
Three Things That Make My Horse Happy
Plezant isn’t the biggest fan of grooming, at first. But after a minute or two he settles in, cocks his back leg and relaxes. And once he does that, It’s time to break out the rubber groomer! And I found this Posture Prep Cross Fiber Groomer Horse Curry Comb that is fantastic.

The Posture Prep tool is a fabulous addition to your grooming box. It is different from other grooming tools in that it helps release fascia and loosen tight areas that contribute to your horses posture when used correctly. It fits perfectly in your hand, is simple to use and comes with illustrated instructions. It is unlike any rubber groomer I have used.

Dr. Pat has perfected her tool over many years to provide horse owners the opportunity to help their horses be comfortable to perform at their best regardless of discipline. Plezant LOVES being groomed with this. He really settles, breathes out and relaxes when I start using this tool. A relaxed partner is the most I could ask for before I ride, as well as just when we are spending some quality time together. I highly recommend this tool.
And it has long nubs that really get down through thick winter coats. Over time the nubs do wear down a little bit, and get rounder.
This is a wonderful addition to your grooming kit over the winter months when your horse has a thicker coat. I know my horse love it when I groom him with this. It’s like a massage for them, which he seems to completely enjoy.
Three Things That Make My Horse Happy
With Plezant being alone now, I worry about him even more. He seemed to be sad and missing his friend for the first few days after Frisby passed. But he is pretty resilient. He seems to be doing ok. And I do have to say that it is nice to be able to dedicate the limited time I have to only having one horse. I don’t think I will be getting another one, at least for the time being.
But, then I do get worried about Plezant being alone, and getting bored. So I found this Uncle Jimmy’s Hanging Ball to hang up in his stall. And he really seems to enjoy it.

This thing is HUGE! And so far, it has lasted really well. The hanging balls come in different flavors too. They even have a sugar free version if your horse shouldn’t have added sugar.
I like that this is in his stall, and gives him something to play with, especially as I am at work 40 hours a week. It’s nice to know he has something to do, while he is alone.
