Summer Time
I love horse shows. I don’t know why I do. Maybe it is because I have always wanted to participate in a large show, or maybe it is the excitement of seeing myself as an exhibitor testing myself and my horse over monstrous jumps. Whatever the reason, every year for 7 Saturdays in a row I drive down to The Colorado Horse Park and spend some time watching the shows.
The horses are incredible. And the riders are talented. The jumps are beautiful and the show grounds are perfect.
There are many different rings, with a flurry of activity. There are hunters and jumpers, and every week the show ends with a Grand Prix.
And of course, there are vendor tents set up, offering the latest and greatest items for you and your horse.
I find inspiration for creating new jumps for myself, as well as potential projects to build and sell.
Each show gives me new ideas of what I can do with my own horses, and I see what the latest trends are for the elite equestrians of the show circuit.
Watching the riders gallop around the ring in their lap of victory is exciting, and makes me think about what my own goals are for myself and my horses.
So Much Fun
I also have a fantastic opportunity to work on my photography skills. Capturing a horse going over the jump, and pressing the shutter button at the right moment is no easy task.
Even though I will probably always be a spectator at these summer events, I think about replicating the grounds, the barns, and the atmosphere at my own home.
And since I have found online horse showing to be just as fulfilling for myself personally, I think I enjoy going to the shows as a spectator even more.
Horse Show Fun
This was the first week of the summer series of shows at The Colorado Horse Park and I can’t wait to go and watch for the next 6 Saturdays. If you are in the area, you really should come out and watch. The Grand Prix is every Saturday in June, and the first 2 Saturdays of July at around 5:00 PM. Admission is free, and there is a lot of room to sit and watch. You never know, I might just be there with you!
