Hey there, fellow horse lovers! 👋 Today, I want to share a not-so-great shopping experience I’ve had recently. If you’re thinking about ordering from State Line Tack or Horse.com (spoiler alert: they’re the same company), you might want to read this first!

The Excitement of a New Saddle

So, here’s the scoop: I’ve been eyeing this AMAZING saddle for what feels like forever. This is the Skidmore Reining Saddle . It comes with soft padded glove leather seat with smooth fender and jockey accented by floral tooling. The skirts are adorned with a combination of hand carved floral and basket tooling. It even has silver engraved conchos that really stand out against the medium oil finish. It also has a close contact cut under the fenders to provide a better ‘feel’ which is supposed to help with communication with the horse. Every time I look at saddles, I keep coming back to this one.
And I’m sure you know how it is when you find that perfect piece of tack, right? 😍 I saved up, counted my pennies, and was SO EXCITED to finally place my order. The best part? I thought I’d get it just in time for Christmas. Talk about the perfect gift to myself!
Why I Chose State Line Tack

Now, I’ll be honest with you. I’ve ordered from State Line Tack before. The shipping has always been slow, but I did eventually get my stuff. This time, I chose them again because:
- They had the saddle I wanted (score!)
- The price was about $50 less than other places (double score!)
Or so I thought… 🤔
The Wait Begins (and Continues… and Continues…)

Here’s where things start to go downhill faster than a runaway horse:
- It’s been almost a MONTH since I placed my order
- Not a peep from State Line Tack
- No shipping updates
- No responses to my inquiries
- Nada. Zilch. Zero communication.
And let me tell you, waiting for a saddle you’re excited about with zero info? It’s like watching paint dry on a fence post. Not. Fun. At. All.
The Not-So-Great Realization
So, here I am, saddle-less and seriously frustrated. And I’ve come to a realization that I want to share with all of you:

Sometimes, the cheapest option isn’t the best option
Sure, I saved about $50 on the saddle price. But at what cost?
- Weeks of waiting
- Zero communication
- Stress and frustration
- Still no saddle in sight
Lessons Learned: Where to Shop Instead
If I could go back in time and give myself some advice, here’s what I’d say:
“Hey, you! Yeah, you with the stars in your eyes over that saddle. Skip State Line Tack and go with Riding Warehouse, or Jeffers Pet instead!”
Why? Because they’re:
- Dependable ✅
- Reliable ✅
- Actually communicate with their customers ✅
- Get your stuff to you in a reasonable timeframe ✅
The Bottom Line
Look, I get it. We all love a good deal. But sometimes, paying a little extra is worth it for peace of mind and actually getting what you ordered.
So, next time you’re tempted by those slightly lower prices at State Line Tack or Horse.com, remember this tale of woe. Ask yourself: Is saving a few bucks worth the headache?
For me, the answer is a big ol’ NOPE. 🙅♀️
I’d love to hear about your experiences! Have you ordered from State Line Tack? Was it smooth sailing or rough riding? Drop a comment below and let’s chat!

Until next time, stay warm, (and hopefully speedy shipping) to you all! 🐴

I ordered a saddle from them once too. I was super excited, as you know Lisa! What I got was a very cheap made saddle with a bizarre color, a coating that I can’t even get off (even after washing it with dish soap and multiple oilings), a cinch that was so flimsy that I wouldn’t even consider using it. Granted it wasn’t a super expensive saddle but it was a joke. Trying to return it was a nightmare so I finally gave up and kept it. I tried it one of my horses and threw it in the tack room. It still sits there, unused. It was a learning experience for sure. I agree with Lisa, stay away from this company for any kind of tack!
Good morning. Interesting that I just stumbled onto your website in an effort to confirm what I had begun to suspect about State Line and horse.com. Horse.com, I had in the past, been happy with because I really like the Snuggit turn out blankets for my horse. But I may find myself spending extra dollars in the future rather than ever shop either one of these places again.
Thank You
I’ve ordered from state line before but had the same kind of meh experience. I just came to say, don’t put Jeffers on the list of reliable vendors. I ordered a pad from them, and some fly boots to reach the free shipping limit. The fly boots came, but no pad, I figured it would ship separately. Finally a few weeks later I reached out to ask when I could expect the pad, they said it had gone out of stock after I placed my order. But they never notified me or refunded me, and even after that contact it took a few more requests to actually get my money back. I can’t help thinking they would have just kept my money forever if I hadn’t reached out, and honestly I did so much shopping around black Friday that it’s totally conceivable it could have fallen through the cracks. I’m definitely never shopping with them again even though they have good prices on things I buy
