This has been a very busy weekend. First, the Drifter’s Hearts of Hope Tack Sale and SHorse Showcase, and then I learned about the Rocky Mountain Dressage Society’s championship show at the horse park. All in one day!
Talk about a busy weekend!
I will dedicate an entire post to Drifter’s, but for this post, I wanted to share some photos from the dressage show.
Rocky Mountain Dressage Society Championship Show
Typically, I venture out to the horse park for the hunter/jumper shows. Which I talk about all the time. But my friend Vickie asked if Lynda and I would be going to the horse park for the dressage show, and I had no idea there was a show going on.
And even though I wanted to go through the treasures that I got at Drifter’s, I didn’t want to let an opportunity go to waste. So I said yep! I’m going to the horse show!
Now, I will be the first one to admit I know nothing about dressage shows. I had no idea who was riding in which ring, what test they were riding, or even how the championship show worked.
But what I do know is beautiful horses, and this show was full of them!
What a Championship Show Looks Like
The one thing that stood out to me was that even though this was a championship show, everyone was very low-key.
People were smiling and having a good time for sure. But there wasn’t such a hurried pace as it seems there are at the hunter/jumper shows. I don’t know how to say it, but the people were like, I don’t know, real. I mean, they were just everyday people like you and me enjoying horses.
It was refreshing. It was also a lot of fun!
The amount of discipline and poise by the horses and the riders was impressive.
Vickie’s friend was showing too. So it was fun to actually know someone who was riding here and to watch her ride. I guess it was a lot of fun to see more mature riders as well. The dressage ring seemed to have a lot more riders who were in my age group rather than the hunter shows.
Of course, the horses were perfectly turned out, which is no different than the hunter shows. But it was a lot more chill, for sure.
And just like every horse show I have ever been to, there was one rider that captured everyone’s attention.
Rocky Mountain Dressage Society Championship Show
While all of the riders were wonderful to watch, there was one that captured everyone’s attention.
I have no idea who this is or his horse. What I do know is that when he came into the ring, everyone’s attention was on his ride.
Holy cow, this guy was good.
When he was riding, it was silent. Everyone that was sitting around us was silent.
His horse was so animated. And I have no idea how well he did because I don’t know very much about dressage other than when it is done correctly, it is beautiful.
From what I saw, I would assume he did very well. I’m not sure, though, because I don’t know who he was competing against or even what class he was in. All I know is it was beautiful!
And when he was finished with his test, everyone around me started clapping madly.
Dressage is Beautiful
No matter who was riding, though, it was beautiful to watch. And I can see why people would want to do it. It seems chill and incredible.
I think I could see doing something like this with my horse. Sure, he may not be to the caliber of these horses, but it would be a lot of fun!
Vendors Row
And yes! They had vendors! I had no idea. I had walked between the barns and up the back path to the show rings. But when we finished watching Angela ride, Vickie said, let’s go see the booths. And I was like, there are booths?
Oh yes! They had lots of different booths at this show. And the vendors were so friendly! One store that we visited had so many beautiful things. Right Path Equestrian was the friendliest vendor, they are located in Peyton, Colorado, and they had some of the most beautiful items.
There was one set that I really had to restrain myself from buying.
Oh my goodness, this was beautiful. Talk about matchy-matchy! And the prices seemed reasonable for what you were getting. If I didn’t have 15 other things to do today – I would be making my way back to the horse park to buy this set. I think it would look stunning on Timon and me!
We also saw these Horse Whiskers Sugar Kisses. They looked delicious! I know they are meant for the horses, but yum! I am going to have to try and find them online so I can try them out!
A Fun Day at a Dressage Show
I had no idea such a show was held at the horse park. I wish I had known earlier in the year. But at least I know now, and I know this show was a part of the Rocky Mountain Dressage Society. I will definitely be back for the 2024 season, and I hope they have lots more shows at the horse park!
Vickie
It was so fun, and fancy! Isn’t that what I look like when I ride?? I wish! Thank you for being my “spur” of the moment friend😁
Lisa
