Dollar Store Fall Decor
I love fall. Mainly, I love decorating for fall. I love the bright and vibrant colors that fall brings, along with the cooler days for working with my horses. It’s nice to be able to ride in the early evening when there is a slight chill in the air.
And it also means that the days are getting shorter, and I will be spending more time inside. Along with having family coming home for the upcoming holidays, I wanted to have some ‘real’ fall decorations. But I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on it.
I have included some links through Amazon in case you want to start making your own fall decorator items too. If you do make a purchase through the link I have provided, I do receive a small commission which helps me to continue doing what I do on my blog, and my YouTube channel. So if you click on a link, thank you for your support!
So it was time for a few DIY projects, with my focus being on being cheap. And I was able to keep my investment low by focusing on dollar store fall decor, and here is what I did.
Multi-Purpose Long Box
I have often seen these in stores like Kirkland’s, or Home Goods but I could never commit to spending a lot of money for a box. So I decided to make one. And it wasn’t that hard really. I had some pieces of flat trim to build it with.
I painted it with chalk paint, and then did the wax to give the box an aged appearance, and it was done.
Then I bought some green foam to be able to plug some silk flowers into it, along with a few other decorations I got at the dollar store, and wa-la! I have a multi-purpose decorator piece that I can swap out the flowers depending on the time of year it is.
And my favorite find for this box were these candles. They are LED candles that I got at the dollar store. And the battery was already inside! I really like the look of candles, but I don’t like fire, or an open flame. So these candles were perfect.
Total cost to make this box: $11.95 for the chalk paints and wax
Multi-Purpose Long Tray
I thought if I could make a box, why not make a couple long trays too? I mean, I already had the wood and the paint. All I needed to buy were the handles on the ends. Enter Amazon. I found wooden drawer handles for $7.99 for 6 of them. That gave me enough ‘handles’ to make 3 trays. Then I just cut a piece of 1 x 6 wood to 30″ and then I had a great accent piece.
I have always wanted something like this, and it was so simple to make. The hardest part was being able to get the holes drilled properly for the screws of the drawer handles.
After a few oops-es, I was able to figure it out. Then I just sanded, painted and waxed them, and they were ready for use. And to make it fun for this photo, I found some fake pears to add as decoration. And the pears never go bad! I love the green color for a contrasting color! They were affordable too on Amazon.
Dollar Store Treasures
Now that I have these really cool pieces, I needed some fall floral’s to complete the arrangement. I went crazy at the dollar store and Walmart. I found a ton of different flowers, and even a few extra fall decorations.
I did go to Michaels, and Hobby Lobby too, but I only bought things that were on sale.
I also found some burlap ribbon, along with some dollar store ribbon and figured out how to make some bows, and a wreath as well. The total cost to make this wreath was $11.75. I used dollar store fall garland, and flowers. The burlap ribbon for the bow is from Hobby Lobby.
And I even found some cute little pumpkins at the dollar store to add a little extra to the fall decorations.
Total Cost For Fall Decorations
I am pretty proud of how much I was able to do on a budget. And here is the break down of what I spent for my fall decorations:
- Dollar Store: $32.49
- Michael’s: $21.15
- Hobby Lobby: $37.65
- Walmart: $14.28
- Amazon: $7.99
Grand total spent: $113.56
Not too bad considering how much stuff I got. And in those totals were some extras for Christmas projects that are coming up too.
Video Instructions For Projects
And even though I didn’t put the step by step instructions here, I did make a LOT of videos for my YouTube channel. These will be coming out over the next few weeks. Yes, I am getting back to my video production! And I have a lot planned for you, that you will be able to watch!
Some of the videos will be what I have been doing inside my home on a budget, as well as different horse DIY projects too. I have a lot of different craft projects in mind for both the barn, and the home. And I would love it if you would check out my channel and watch a video or two.
And if you would like to be notified of when I have a new video, subscribe to my channel and click the bell icon to be notified if when I have a new video. Who knows, you might get inspired to make a few crafts for yourself too!
