Horse show ribbons are more than just tokens of achievement; they symbolize the hard work, dedication, and bond between you and your horse. Instead of letting these beautiful ribbons collect dust, consider repurposing them into unique and meaningful DIY projects. If you aren’t sure how to get started, let me see if I can help you come up with some creative ideas and easy DIY projects to repurpose your horse show ribbons, allowing you to relive your equestrian triumphs in a truly personal way.
Horse Show Ribbon Shadow Box
Transform a regular shadow box into a stunning display of your accomplishments. Arrange your horse show ribbons in an organized manner, creating an eye-catching focal point that captures your journey. Add a photograph of you and your horse during a memorable show for an extra touch of sentimentality.
You could add random ribbons to the frame, or if you want to get specific, you could do one box with all red ribbons, one with blue, and one with complementary colors. And if you don’t have a shadow box, you can make one with a Dollar Tree frame!
I love this look. It looks classy and is a fantastic way to display your achievements.
Ribbon Wreath
Oh my goodness. This project is SO easy, yet beautiful. You can design a gorgeous wreath using your horse show ribbons to add an elegant equestrian touch to your home decor. Start by wrapping the tails of the ribbons around a wreath form, arranging them in layers for a textured look. Then place the rosettes around in a layered fashion to cover the wreath form. You can even incorporate faux flowers or horseshoe accents for added flair.
This project is so simple to do, that you can find many different ways to craft rosette wreaths. Once I got started, I just couldn’t stop!
Ribbon Keychains or Bag Charms
Create personalized keychains or bag charms using your horse show ribbons. Simply fold the ribbons into loops and secure the ends with a sturdy thread or fabric glue. Attach a keyring or lobster clasp to the loop, and you’ll have a functional and stylish accessory that celebrates your achievements wherever you go.
Ribbon Picture Frame
Enhance your cherished horse-related photos by framing them with your ribbons. Choose a plain picture frame and carefully glue the ribbons around its edges. This transforms a simple frame into a unique display piece that beautifully encapsulates your equestrian journey.
And you can be really creative with how you glue the ribbons to the frame for different looks.
Ribbon Hanger
I know you have seen the images of people hanging their prized show rosettes on a wall. But that takes a lot of space. And while it is pretty to see all of those ribbons, once you have a large collection, the ribbons just seem like dust collectors. So I decided to make a ribbon holder to hold a few of my favorite rosettes.
It was very easy. I took a Dollar Tree sign and covered it with a few ribbons. Then I added a few Dollar Tree tumbling tower blocks to the back so it would stay out from the wall, making it easier to hang my ribbons over. I liked this so much, and I had a lot of ribbon parts left over, so I made a second one.
Horse Show Ribbon Belt
I first saw this project while searching on Pinterest for different horse show ribbon DIY projects. So I decided to make my own. It is fairly simple to DIY a belt made of horse show ribbons. All you need is a couple of D rings, some ribbons, and a sewing machine will make this project very easy. All you do is cut strips of the ribbon tails and sew the strips together. Repeat this process until you have two long strips of ribbon pieces. Then sew the two strips together and then attach the D rings. If you want to get a little fancy, you can attach the ribbon belt to the D rings with a small piece of leather-like material, and you can finish the opposite end with a leather-like tail making it easy to secure the belt in place.
Or, if you are not a seamstress, you could cover a belt with ribbons. That was what I did. I took the tails of the ribbons and wrapped them around a leather belt. I did this for the length of the belt, and then I overlapped some sections with more ribbons.
When I got to the end, where the holes are for the buckle, I used a heated nail to push through the ribbon and next used the tip of the glue gun to melt the ribbon so it wouldn’t fray in these areas. I’m pretty happy with how this belt turned out, and I love being able to ‘wear’ some of my past accomplishments!
Ribbon Vase
Take the rosette portion of a few of your favorite ribbons, stack them into a cylinder vase or any type of glass container and put those rosettes in! You can create a pattern or just place them in randomly.
You can keep the rosettes intact or remove the tails for another project. Since I have been going crazy with my horse show ribbon crafting, I had a lot of rosettes that I had disassembled. So I placed them randomly into a vase I had bought from Goodwill.
I think this is an excellent way to add a pop of color to a shelf, and display my ribbons at the same time.
Ribbon Horse Wall Art
In the past, I have made a Horse Head Christmas Wreath. But when I saw this, I was literally blown away. I have never seen something so beautiful! And what a wonderful way to repurpose treasured ribbons.
I have not tried this, but I am going to. It’s definitely going to be a labor-intensive process, but I am excited to see what I can make! Or, if you would like to learn more about the incredible artist who makes these unique portraits, you can find her on Facebook. Just think how beautiful something like this would be in your tack room!
