Adding an equestrian style art theme to your home isn’t hard, but it takes some thought, and some time. When I am not busy working outside, I am busy inside looking for ways to add equestrian style art into my home. This is no easy task, considering my husband is not as ‘horsey’ as I am. So trying to find a balance between tasteful art for our home, as well as bringing in some equestrian art type elements is a challenge for me. But I love everything related to horses, and I want to have this in my home too.
Finding a Balance
I have one room that is open, and this is my area where I keep my prized saddle. But no matter what I would do, it always looked….bad.
So I decided to do a little searching on Pinterest for ideas of how I could make this room look nice, as well as still function for the purpose I use it for.
And it was definitely time for an update for this area of our home.
And after about a month of trying to find time to do it, I think I have it figured out. I decided to create a gallery wall to incorporate some photos of my horses, and to create a theme for the room.
I searched for photos on other websites, but in the end I decided to make my horses the focal point of the wall.
I went to Hobby Lobby, and The Dollar Store to find some frames and mats that would bring a cohesive blend and look nice on the wall. And then I went to my favorite photo site to order some prints for my future masterpiece, Nations Photo Lab. They create beautiful prints that are really affordable.
Creating a Gallery Wall
Once I had some images I liked, in the format they needed to be, I had to determine the layout I wanted the photos to be.
So I again went to Pinterest and looked up gallery walls.
I found different configurations of how to set up the photos and decided on one that would utilize different sized frames, but keep a rectangular pattern on the wall. I couldn’t quite find what I wanted, so I went to one of my favorite places to dream shop, Pottery Barn. Of course they will have ideas, which in turn are pimping their products! And even though I didn’t buy my frames from them, the look can be achieved in a more economical fashion.
And to see if I would really like this idea, I practiced by placing the photos on the floor first, before nailing into my freshly filled and painted wall.
The image below is one of my favorites. I actually captured my horse scratching his face, even though it looks like he is in the middle of a fabulous ballet pose.
The End Result
I was able to put up my very own gallery wall!
And I used the same pieces of furniture that I originally had, I just configured them differently so I could make the most use of the small space that I have.
I found these little easy to build storage cubes on Walmart for about $20.00 each. They offer a lot of storage in a small space. Add a piece of wood shelving to the top, and you have a piece of usable furniture that adds functional storage for a small area.
And although it may not be considered “staged”, I am not looking to sell my home, but to make the most of the space that I have while keeping my home neat, and finding space for all of the stuff I have somehow accumulated over the past 12 years of living here!
I was also able to incorporate important items that may not be equestrian related, but they have sentimental value for me. This helps to set the mood for my little loft. See all of my little wood cutouts I have made to sell on Etsy, to make a little extra money?
So incorporating your own equestrian style art into your home doesn’t have to be difficult, just think how you could add equestrian elements, or photos into your decor so your own personal style turns a house into your home.
