30 Day Blogging Challenge Day 15-My Dream Trailer

Well here we are at day number 15 in my 30-day blogging challenge! I missed yesterday, so I won’t be able to make it 30 days in a row, but I am pushing forward as this is the halfway point in my quest! This is 15 days down, 15 more to go!  By the time I am done with this challenge, you will all know so much more about me and my horses as well as my strengths, and my weaknesses. I wanted to offer a little more to you about myself, and thanks to me reading the incredible blog She Moved To Texas, I found her 30-day blogging challenge and decided to emulate what she had done.

My Dream Trailer is a Brenderup horse trailer. For me this trailer makes the most sense. It is lightweight, it is easy to tow, and it is everything that I want for my horses.

Current Trailer Situation

my dream trailer
My horse trailer I have now, before I painted it.

I do have a horse trailer right now, but it isn’t everything that I want. It is a 1966 Phillips horse trailer. It is big! I have driven my husband’s truck with it, one time. After we bought it, we stopped to get gas about 6 miles away from home, and my husband told me “You are the one who wants it, you need to drive it.” I drove it, and I was scared out of my mind the entire 6 miles. I kept checking to make sure I was not taking up the entire road. I was driving about 15 miles per hour, and had cars passing me. Talk about scary!

This is why I think if I got a Brenderup trailer, it would be better.

The Dream Trailer

The trailer is super lightweight, and more narrow that the beast of a trailer I have right now. It is a straight load trailer, but the divider inside is removable. If I want to haul one horse, and he wants to ride at an angle (Frisby) he can.

It has a ramp for the horses instead of the step-up edge. The inside is light and bright, so the horses don’t feel like they are walking into a cave, which is helpful when you want your horse to get into the trailer.

The company doesn’t make these trailers any longer, so my search is limited to used trailers. This is a challenging proposition, because I am relying on the honesty of the person who is selling the trailer. In my last trailer purchase, the girl I bought it from never transferred the title when she bought it, and then she signed the title, basically voiding it out. So we had to pay a huge extra fee to get the trailer in our name. Lesson learned I guess.

And although the trailer I have now is safe, it is just so big, and I do not feel comfortable driving it, even when it is empty. I can only imagine what it would feel like with a horse in the back.

How I Am Going to Get My Dream Trailer

A Brenderup trailer being towed by a car, like mine!

But I am working toward my goal of getting my Brenderup trailer. I have created a savings bank that I put money in every week, to get to my goal of this trailer. I know it will happen, I must be patient! This is so hard to do, but I know it will be worth it, when I get my dream trailer!

If you’d rather buy new, consider an Equi-Trek! They’re a European company that has expanded into the USA, and they have the (amazing) design that is popular in Europe of side loading, and many are rear-facing also. I love the side load because it’s significantly more inviting for most horses, and rear-facing is supposed to be more comfortable during the haul. They have several models that are very light (not a lot of big trucks in Europe!), and starting at around $7k new, the small models are very affordable.
I’m DYING to get a horse box from them – like a Uhaul truck for horses. No hooking up to a hitch! So easy to drive! But alas, it’s out of my foreseeable budget, so I’ll be getting a Space Treka at some point.

      Hi Michelle!
Thank you so much for sharing this! To get a brand new trailer for $7000 is awesome! I think I may check into them, because they are less expensive than buying a used Brenderup. The horse box is enticing though, but I don’t think I can justify that purchase to my husband! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Very nice post on Horse Trailers. As a horse owner, I also use Horse trailer for my horses to traveling and safety purposes. As per my recommendation, Debon Trailer is the best choice for my horses. This trailer is easily carried by motorcycle owners as well as camper van owners to travel across the world. Because of its anti-slip nature and cost, I recommended this trailer for horses. Thanks for sharing very nice and informative details on a horse trailer.
