Brrrr……it is definitely wintertime in Colorado! So much cold and snow. I cannot wait for this wintertime weather to be gone. Bring on the longer days and warmer temperatures!

Well, this has been a fun day. An inch of snow turned into about 6 inches of blowing and drifting snow. My horses stayed in for the day because of the snow and cold. The wind was what made it so bad.

And me being how I am (a big chicken) when it comes to driving in the snow, called in late to work. I made it in around 11:00 AM in one piece. Yay me!
Looking Forward
Coming home was a lot better than going in for sure. And I knew I had packages that had been delivered, so I was thinking about my treasures on my drive home.
Having something else to think about did make the drive easier. Having something else to focus on rather than just the white knuckle drive, waiting to run into a patch of ice. Why am I such a chicken shit when it comes to winter weather driving? I am not sure, but I am.
Of everything that was delivered, I was most excited to see what the bridle looked like.
Getting New Tack – Yes!
When I opened the package, I could smell the leather, in a good way. It was strong, yet soft and pliable. I found my leather dressing and put a nice coat of it on the leather. And my container is almost empty. I have never found anything better for softening stiff leather. And it works well on all of my leather, which is why I am almost out of it!

The noseband and browband of the bridle are very nice. But the one thing that I was looking forward to with this bride was the gel-filled crownpiece for Jesse. It is supposed to give him more comfort. And I feel that if I can keep him comfortable, he will be more apt to perform better, right?

Well, that is how my thought process works. Once the bit is here, I can assemble the bridle which will make it easier to try on Jesse.
The rolled leather is something I have not seen before. But I like it. It seems like a very well-made bridle. And I am excited to try it on him. Hopefully, my new bit will come later this week, and we can give it a try – on. Get it, try on?
Almost Ready Now
So now that I have my bridle, my saddle, and the other pieces ordered, I feel like I am getting a handle on everything I need to have to be prepared for getting serious about my dressage riding and learning. I am really enjoying the Dressage Training book by Elaine Heney. Each day I am learning more and more about starting my training from the ground. Which for me is a good thing, since I am not sure when I will be able to get back in the saddle again. I do not want to do anything to jeopardize my healing so far. It is a wonderful thing not to have the kind of pain that I had before surgery. So awesome.
A Challenge within a Challenge

I also signed up for the Ride for Success February-March challenge. The last challenge I participated in was way back in June when I brought my new horses home. I had so much fun, and I got a pretty ribbon too. And for myself, I find my motivation in challenging myself. I’m excited to get started with this challenge, which I will be able to complete my calendar easily because well, I am journaling every day. Easy to keep track of what I have done because I’m already doing it.
