Family Life

I haven’t been blogging for very long, in comparison to most of the popular bloggers out there. I decided to challenge myself, and join a challenge group to blog for 30 days in a row! It seems a little daunting, starting here on a crisp Saturday morning, but I am hopeful that in the 30 days that follow I will have a ton of information for all of you to look back on, and maybe I will be able to share something with you that you can use to make your horse or home life a little more happy. (Insert smiley face here!)

I figured today would be a great day to start this challenge, because like most days, it is packed full with activities, however, none of those activities are horse related!

And although everyday life would be incredible if it was full of horses every waking moment of the day, this weekend isn’t.

Today will be full of kid, and non-horse related activities. Starting with cheering on our youngest daughter while she participates in a parade as a part of the marching band, and then a well-deserved birthday gift for my husband, going to a Denver Bronco Football game!

We live in a small town east of Denver, so nothing is close. When we plan on going anywhere, we plan on everything is about an hour away. This is unless you consider we do have a Wal-Mart which is about 10 minutes away, which is great for shopping.

But days like today are a completely full day, with about 4 hours of that day being driving.

But once we get there it is so worth it, especially when you are going to a parade! And apparently I am not the only one who feels this way……

Littleton Western Welcome Week ParadeThe street is loaded with people waiting for the annual parade to start. Western Welcome Week in Littleton Colorado is ended with a parade. I am not sure why they have the parade at the end of the celebration, but who cares, we got to go to a parade!

And although I literally eat, breath, and sleep horses, it is important to keep a balance with home and horse life. So that means making time to spend with my family, and be an active participant in what is important to them as well. Could I be out riding and grooming my horses? Of course, but then I would miss moments like this…..

And even though my horses are a part of my family too, it is important and fun to spend time doing with the people that I love, watching them do what the love too.

Making time for family life

As our children get older, and they begin to spread their wings and start to live their own lives it is very important to be there for them, and support them in their passions. I am grateful for the time that I have with them and I am so proud of what they have accomplished, as well as being excited for them and their future.

Making time for family

The entire point of this post is to share with you that even though horses and riding is a really important aspect of your life, don’t forget to make time to spend with those you love, and participate in their passions too. Yes horses are awesome, but sometimes our family may not hold the same enthusiasm that we do for our four legged best friends. And that’s ok! But giving our time to them is just as important as spending an extra hour or two riding or training. So take a break from the horses, and make time for your family and friends too.

So very true! My son was in the marching band while in school as well. I never missed one of his performances. I would take time off from work if I had to because I knew I could never get that moment back again. Oh, by the way, go 49er’s! 😉

You are so right! These moments are once in a lifetime, and although I love my horses, I am so grateful to be able to experience these special moments with our kids. Sometimes it’s challenging to balance everything, but it is worth it. Oh, and the 49er’s looked great!!!!!
