30 Day Blogging Challenge Day 16-My Best Riding Friend
Well here we are at day number 16 in my 30-day blogging challenge! This is 16 days down, 14 more to go! We are over the halfway point on this challenge! Oh my goodness! By the time I am done with this challenge, you will all know so much more about me and my horses as well as my strengths, and my weaknesses. I wanted to offer a little more to you about myself, and thanks to me reading the incredible blog She Moved To Texas, I found her 30-day blogging challenge and decided to emulate what she had done. Today’s post is a heartfelt one. Today I am going to share with you a friendship that I am so grateful for.
As an adult, it is difficult to have friends, well for me it is. There is always so much to do, and I really don’t have time for friends, outside of my family. But about 2 years ago, there was a transfer to the clinic I work at of a new nurse. She was thrown into her position, without a warm welcome, or even a training period to our department. I still remember the look on her face when she came in for her very first shift. We had no nurse manager, and no one other than me that was any sort of leader. The first 2 weeks were rough for her. And thinking back, I wish I would have done more for her to make her transition a happy one.

A Likely Match
But jumping ahead a year, Lynda is now a part of the team I work with. And I am so lucky to have her. I also found out that she, like me, loved horses. And she was working toward getting her own horse after many years of being horseless. I could totally relate to her. And she was so nice, to everyone. She always puts other’s needs before her own, and is such a giving person!

After we got to work together more, I also got to be a part of her finding the 2 horses she owns now. She also indulged me, and let me make some videos of her getting her horses, so I was able to share her journey on my YouTube channel.

She is such an awesome horse mom. She makes my heart smile.
And even though we don’t get to ride together because our horses are at our homes, and we aren’t neighbors. But we do share our horsey experiences with each other, our tack purchases, our good rides and not so good rides.

Horse Friends are True Friends
She makes me look at the way I do things with my horses, and gives me tips. That is what a friend is too me. She listens. She is kind. And she is a trooper. She never gives up. I love that about her, and I look at how she does things, and she makes me want to be a good person, like she is. It is so nice to have a horse friend that I can share my hopes and dreams with, as well as share things that happen. And she helps me work through them. I wish we did live in the same neighborhood, so we could go for trail rides together, or even just hang out at the barn together, and bitch about our day.

And we do have a standing date every weekend from June through July so we can go to The Colorado Horse Park and watch the horse shows! We can sit there for hours, and walk around, and just spend time together. It’s really nice to have someone I can relate too, as well as having a partner in crime to just go hang out at a horse show all day. And what is really funny, is after that, then we both get motivated to go do something with our horses.

But even though grown-up friendships are different than high school friendships, I am so grateful I have Lynda’s friendship, and have a horse person to bounce ideas off, as she shares hers with me. So Lynda, if your reading this, thank you so much for coming into my crazy life. I am grateful to you, and feel so lucky that we were able to meet.

You make me a better person, because I can continue to learn from you, and just enjoy the moments we have together. Thank you for being you, and thank you for allowing me to be your friend.

Lisa, WOW! How can I even answer all of that? Let me start by saying that you’re a booger because I am sitting here writing this with tears streaming down my face! I really wish that all of you that follow Lisa could meet her. All the sweet wonderful things that she just said about me go double for her.
She is right, adult friendships are not like high school friendships, and I, like her, find it difficult to have friends. There is never enough time in the day, and there are always things that need to be done. That, and I am not always very trusting of other people. I have had way to many fair weather friends.
So the story starts when I moved to her clinic and was TERRIFIED! It was something completely new for me. Hard to believe that was 3 years ago! She says she didn’t help me enough, but omg, if it wasn’t for her I would have left after a couple weeks and turn tail and run! She gave me the strength and guts to stick it out. She took me under her wing and didn’t let me give up on myself or my new job. I always knew that she was special right from the start. There were days when I would find myself in tears and she always lent a ear, listened to my babbling and encouraged my to keep going. Like I said, if it wasn’t for her I would have never lasted there. About a year ago, I had the opportunity to move to her team at the clinic. I got to know her a little better and once we started talking horses, a very special friendship bloomed. Funny how horses can bring people together. 🙂 Lisa was a huge driving force in my quest to have horses again. There were so many obstacles and there were many times that I wanted to give up my dream but Lisa would not let me. Like work, she encouraged me to keep working towards my goal and always told me it would happen. And then all of a sudden it happened and she was a huge part of that! And it was my pleasure and honor to have her do videos of me! Bonus!
Last summer Lisa invited me to go to a horse show with her. I can’t begin to tell you how excited I was! Here is this awesome person that I work with, actually wanting to spend time with me, (yes me! ) outside of work. Being more than just a co-worker! We got to spend some time bonding and I can’t wait for this summer when we can do it again! We don’t always get to do things together but when we do it is really special for me. Lisa takes me for who I am, doesn’t judge and still hangs out with me even though I can be difficult sometimes lol Not kidding! And we will get to actually ride together one way or the other! And I will be your biggest, loudest fan when you start showing again.
But I am the one who is lucky! Lisa has the most patient, kind heart and no matter how frustrated she may be, (which usually involves work) she always has a smile on her face and a kind word for her co-workers, patients and her friends. When I start to freak out, she always knows how to calm me down. She has a saying that I use daily now. “The day will start and the day will end”…and it makes the day so much better. Even when we are not talking, I can look across to her desk and know that she is there if I need her, and it comforts me! We don’t have to talk, just to know that she is there is enough!
It makes me laugh when I think that she may actually be learning horsey stuff from me! She has been my go to for every aspect of being a horse mom. It has been so many years since I had horses and never in Colorado so things are different here and having her as a resource has been invaluable! She is the only one that I trust to give me good advice.
And don’t let her fool you! SHE is the one who listens, the one who is kind and the one who is the trooper! SHE makes me want to be a better person and be more like her! I am the lucky one in this friendship! I couldn’t ask for a more sincere, genuine friend.
Lisa, I am so blessed to have you in my life and have you as my friend. You are one of the most amazing, ambitious, talented people I know. Our mutual love of horses is our bond but it is so much more than that! You are my mentor, my sounding board, my peace most days, and the best friend that a person could ask for. Thank You for coming into my boring, but busy life and sharing your happiness with me! As I said, I am the lucky one! I can’t wait for our summer horse shows and spending time together!
I only have one complaint about you’re amazing blog about me…that is the fact that you have these beautiful pictures and videos of my horses and I look like crap in every one of them! lol
I could go on for pages but I only have one thing left to say and then I will stop rambling (another thing that she puts up with!) Thank you for who you are and for sharing that with me. I love you my friend!
And I love that your my friend too! I cannot wait for summer so we can go to the shows! And if Will is there, I am totally going to make you go up to him so I can take your picture with him!!!!!!
My boots do look cool in that picture tho! 🙂
I love this picture of your boots 🙂 I have used this picture sooooooo much!
You can totally make me go take a picture with Will! I dont think you’ll even have to drag me! 🙂
