30 Day Blog Challenge Day 6- My Dream Property
Wow, it’s already day number 6 in my 30-day blogging challenge! This is 6 days down, 24 more to go! By the time I am done with this challenge, you will all know so much more about me and my horses as well as my strengths, and my weaknesses. I wanted to offer a little more to you about myself, and thanks to me reading the incredible blog She Moved To Texas, I found her 30-day blogging challenge and decided to emulate what she had done. It’s interesting to note, she just recently changed the layout of her blog, and it is really nice! I loved the way she shared 30 days of looking into her life, so I wanted to do the same, with a few twists in some of the topics. I think this topic is my favorite to write about so far.
On a daily basis, I am searching for the perfect home/barn. REColorado shows up in my top internet searches, because I go there on a daily basis. Because you never know when the opportunity might come up. And when the opportunity does arise, I would be ready to commit to moving away from the home we have lived at for the past 12 years. However, in my internet searches looking for my dream horse property there is only one home that has ever checked off all my boxes. And that home was listed at one time, but the asking price was a lot higher than what the home was worth, but more on that a little bit later.
Would I Really Move?
My husband and I are on the brink of becoming empty-nesters. Our youngest daughter will be graduating this year, and after that we can do whatever we want. Do you have any idea of how freeing that is? No longer will we have to stay rooted where we are because of our kids. We can find a dream property for the both of us, and focus on what we want for the first time in the past 25 years.
The house we have now is ok. It is a tri-level home with a basement. We have updated it, and made it as useful to our needs as we have been able to. But it has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms which is way more than we need. And it is only on 2 acres, not quite enough for what I want to be able to do, as well as my husband.
We have updated the barn, and horse area, but it lacks an “official” arena, and there is no power or water out to my barn. My horses do have the choice to go in and out as they please, but the weather still gets in, and I cannot go out and ride after work during the week if it is dark, or the weather gets bad.
And although we could continue to live here forever, we want more, and we are seriously considering selling our house if we find the perfect home. But it would have to be VERY perfect. Because packing and moving and the hassle of selling would have to have a very bright light at the end of that tunnel.
My Dream Property
I told you earlier I would share with you my dream property. And for right now it really is a dream, because the price on this home is not only out of our budget, but it was listed for more than it was worth. So the owners took it off the market.
The property of my dreams is on 9 acres in Parker, Colorado. It is an adorable little house. And that is just the beginning, the true magic is what else is on this property.
There is a nice little barn, with an indoor riding arena! I could ride whenever I felt like it. I fell in love with the barn when I saw the photos. It is so cute! Two stalls with runs, and a lot of storage. The property is fenced, has a garage, tons of storage, and area for our chickens. And it just spoke to me. I mean I saw the photos, and I was very tempted to ask my realtor to go look at it. However, the house was listed at $825,000.00 which is out of our budget, and there is no way we would be able to get a mortgage on it, because it was listed for $150,000.00 more than what it is worth. It stayed on the market for about a month before the owners took it off.
For us the house is perfect. It’s not too big, and not too small. There is plenty of space inside for us to be happy and content while we add our touches. And there is plenty of land for me and my horses, as well as my husband to be able to do what he wants to do.
There are 4 bedrooms, and 3 bathrooms. Plenty of room for the two of us, and guest rooms for when our kids come home for the holidays. The kitchen is ok for now, but would be refinished. And the living areas are open, with exposed beam ceilings which are just beautiful.
They have done some very nice work to the home, and kept it up to date. But no central air, so that would be something that would have to be figured in. After living with air conditioning for the past 12 years, it would be difficult to be without it. And I would rather not. This home would also put me about 10 minutes closer to work, which is a definite plus, and closer to the Colorado Horse Park where there are shows all summer long.
This house is one I would buy, if it were priced appropriately. And since the owners went through the hassle of getting it ready to sell, and listing it, hopefully they will come around to listing the house for a reasonable price, so we can buy it!
But instead of looking at this as a loss, I am looking at it as a future opportunity. Finding my dream property on my terms means I can get what I really want. And if it isn’t quite available, that gives me time to save up for it, get rid of my debt, and get my house in tip-top shape so we can sell it fast. I look at this as an opportunity to plan every step of our home selling/buying process so we will have all of our ducks in a row when the time comes. Instead of saying I wish I could have done that, I will have a plan in place to be able to do it.
Who knows, maybe a year from now I will be posting pictures for you of us moving to (this) our dream house. Time will tell, and so will my planning.
I would love to know what your dream property would look like, leave a comment below so we can dream, and plan, together!
