Oh yeah, week 2 of my kitchen makeover challenge is done! And although my money did not go near as far as I thought it would, I am happy with the progress. I have been able to get so much done that I am fairly confident I will be able to get this makeover done in 3 weeks – and not 4! That’s like a week off right?

But limiting myself to just $100 is the hardest part of my challenge so far. I mean, I look something up, and I’m thinking how nice it would be to add to my kitchen, like a new rug that I found on Amazon.

I mean it’s only $14.00. But no, this will have to wait for a future purchase – I need to stay on track and not be tempted by pretty things. That is a challenge within itself.

My Plan For The $100 Kitchen Makeover Challenge

So, what have I been doing for the past two week in my kitchen? If you want to go back to the beginning, you can by clicking here. Well here was my original plan:

Week One: I will start with removing all of the excess from my kitchen. I want to start with a clean slate, and I mean a REALLY clean slate! So I will be taking down everything, and thoroughly cleaning everything.
This cleaning job will take me at least a day.
And then, I will start painting!
The paint I am using is my most favorite all in one paint by Heirloom Traditions. No need to prime, no special prep work needed. This paint is TOUGH and is easily able to withstand the abuse of a very busy kitchen.

Week Two: (This is where we are right now) Paint the inside of the cabinets
Week Three: If I have any money for decorating, I’ll get a few things or just shop at my house! And then put it all together!

Week Four: Review, and look for any missed paint spots, or areas that need touch up. Clean everything again, stage, and take photos for final reveal!

So being at week 2, all I really needed to get done this week was to paint the inside of the cabinets.

And I am happy to say, this was simple to get done. It’s funny how when you only have 1 thing on your list for the week – it can get done!

But then I started looking at the window ledge. And well, it was in need of a little attention.

I already had a can of Heirloom Traditions paint in Cashmere. So I decided to repaint the window ledge, or sill. I’m not really sure what it’s called? It’s almost like a window seat – sort of.

But this is a gorgeous white paint that works beautifully for trim. And I have been learning some tricks when it comes to painting with this paint.

The biggest lesson I have learned is that after I paint on the paint using a paint brush, then I go over it with a foam roller to give it a flawless finish. It works really well. It’s the little things you learn that really elevate your painting. In my opinion.

Deep Cleaning The Floor

Now, I did add this in last week because I got so far ahead with my painting. And I am glad I decided to do this. I don’t deep clean the floor as much as I should. But there is no reason not too. I have a Shark Steam Mop that I bought years ago on Amazon. They don’t sell this one anymore. But they do have an ‘updated’ Steam Mop available for about the same price.

I love this mop. It makes such a difference! Look at the before and after pictures. This is my kitchen floor before:

And this is the after:

I know, it’s not much different. But having a sanitized floor, well isn’t it great? And the steam action of the mop really gets the floor clean. The steam sanitizes the floor and kills germs and bacteria. And well, they way things are today, you can never have a house that is too clean, right?

Deep Cleaning A Backsplash

I also spent a little extra time deep cleaning my backsplash. I had thought about whitewashing it. But when I saw how much the gray paint lightened up the space, I didn’t think I needed to do the white washing. But now looking at the photos, I am seriously thinking I want to whitewash the backsplash. Hmmm……maybe.

If I do have an extra week, why not right? I mean, I already have the paint. And whitewashing is not that difficult. Or, so I’ve heard.

$100 Kitchen Makeover Challenge – Week 2

Well, that is the end of week 2 in my kitchen makeover challenge. And I am happy that I have been able to stay within my $100 budget.

So I only have a little bit more to do and my kitchen makeover will be complete. Next week will be the hardest I think because, I am almost done, and the only thing left to do is to add some decor. But I have to do this WITHOUT spending any money. I do have a few new tiered tray pieces I made for my Fall decorating. And I do have lots of supplies in my craft room. SO I guess I will just have to get crafty and come up with something special for my kitchen!
