Giddy up flix review

Giddy Up Flix is Like Netflix for Horse Owners

With the shorter days of winter, I find myself looking for things to do inside, and still being horse related. But when it’s really cold, I don’t feel like going out to the garage and working on my set of horse jumps. And let’s face it, sometimes you just want to relax and watch something good on TV. But I can’t really get into the shows on TV, and I have watched almost every series on Netflix.

So I decided maybe it would be a better use of my time to find something educational to watch. That was when I found Giddy-Up Flix.

Have you ever heard of it? If not, let me enlighten you. Giddy Up Flix is a company that rents videos all related to horses. For a fee, you can subscribe to their service and have training videos delivered to your home. It’s kind of like Netflix for horse owners. Because all of the videos they have are horse related.

How it Works

It’s very easy. You just go to the website Giddy-Up Flix and sign up. You can also search through their inventory of videos, to make sure this is something you would like to do. They set it up by disciplines, and you can search for whatever you want, to see if they have what you are looking for. Here are some examples:

  • Dressage
  • Eventing
  • Fitness
  • General interest
  • Hoof Care
  • No Dust Club
  • No Worries Club
  • Performance
  • Barrel Racing

And you can also search by instructor’s like:

  • Al Dunning
  • Clinton Anderson
  • Charmayne James
  • USDF
  • AQHA

There really is something for everyone!

After you have decided you want to sign up, you choose how many videos you want to have at a time. For me, it is realistic to do 1 video at a time. I pay $12.95 per month to rent one video at a time. You can increase it if you want. They have a maximum of 4 videos at one time for about $28.95 per month. But this would give you a lot of options, to always have a video to watch. Which makes me think increasing to having 2 videos at a time for $18.95 a month isn’t too bad.

After you have made your decision of what type of membership you would like, then you start to build your que. You want to have a lot of videos in your que, so you will always have a new video ready to come to you when you send one back. They only ship first class mail, so it could take a few days to get to you. Keep that in mind when you are deciding on your membership level.

The turnaround time is pretty good. And if you have some down time, this will definitely give you something to do when you can’t be riding.

Is it a Good Deal?

To decide if this is a good deal, let’s do the math. For my subscription, I pay $12.95 per month and I can rent one video at a time. That means they will send me one video, and when they get it back, they send me a new video. The company ships from Washington, and they ship the video first class mail. This means it takes about 3 days for me to get a video once it has been shipped to me. So basically, I get 1 video a week. On average that will give me 5 videos a month.

I am working my way through Clinton Anderson’s Fundamentals series, and also the colt starting series right now. The colt starting series has 11 DVD’s at a cost of $599.00, if you are not a member of his No Worries Club.  If you are a member, it would cost you $399.00. So for the sake of argument, let’s say you were a member of the club, so we have the lower price to focus on.

For me to rent the entire series, and watch all of the DVD’s through Giddy Up Flix, it would take me about 2 ½ months. We will round up, and say 3 months total to watch all 11 videos. 3 months at $12.95 per month would be a total cost of $38.85. If I bought the series, yes I would own them, but at a cost of $399.00. By renting the videos instead of buying, I just saved 90%.

True, I will not have the arena mates to go along with the videos, and I can’t go back and watch them over and over again, but when I get the video, I watch it at least twice and I take notes.

Now let’s look at this from an even bigger angle. If I have my subscription for 12 months, it will cost me $155.40 for the year. That means I should be able to get 52 videos for the year, but lets say stuff happens, and I am only able to rent 50 videos for the year. I will have been able to watch:

  • Clinton Anderson Fundamentals series (14 videos)
  • Clinton Anderson Intermediate fundamentals series (11 videos)
  • Clinton Anderson Colt starting series (11 videos)
  • Clinton Anderson Trick training series (4 videos)
  • Clinton Anderson Horsemanship 101 series (5 videos)
  • Clinton Anderson Lead and lead changes series (3 videos)
  • Clinton Anderson Dressage series (2 videos)

And these are the actual videos I have in my que to rent. But if I were to buy all of these videos, it would cost me $1835.97! So $155 versus $1800…do you see the value of renting? I will get to watch the exact same videos, for a fraction of the cost of buying them. I still get the information, it just doesn’t cost as much.

Giddy Up Flix is Great!

So far, I have been very happy with my subscription. Like I said earlier, depending on how diligent I am I can get between 4 and 5 videos per month. This in turn gives me a lot of education and guidance that I can then apply with my own horses. I don’t have spend a lot of money, and I still get access to a vast library of horse related videos.

They even offer a gift subscription option if you wanted to give Giddy Up Flix as a gift to your favorite equestrian.

Overall, I am so happy that there is a way I can further my knowledge and skill level with my horses. And Giddy Up Flix is a great service for equestrians. And I just wanted to let you all know, I have shared this with you not because I get anything from Giddy Up Flix. I just love sharing really cool programs and products with you, to give you options. I pay for my subscription, and have not been asked to give this review. Just wanted to share this great company with you!
