31 Days To Becoming A Better Rider

31 Days to Becoming a Better Rider

Since today is August first I have decided I am going to attempt to participate in a VEDA challenge again. VEDA stands for vlog every day in August (or April, as the last time I tried this). And I thought a fun way to create a daily video would be to talk about something I am passionate about, becoming a better rider. So that is how 31 days to becoming a better rider came to be. I wanted to share an entire month of ideas with you to help you bond with your horse and improve your riding.

Day 1: Why 31 Days?

Establishing habits are important. And it has been said that for us to get accustom to having something be a part of our routine, or a habit, you need to repeat that process 30 times. By dedicating yourself to 31 days you will be establishing a pattern. That pattern will become a habit.

You don’t necessarily need to ride your horse every day for 31 days in a row. If you decided that’s what you were going to do, you might not stick with it.

I look at it like new year resolutions, we often have great dreams of what we will become every new year. We promise ourselves we will lose weight, stop smoking, or get in shape. But we don’t have a plan.

By putting some serious thought into our 31 day plan, we will be more likely to stick to it. Humans are creatures of habit. We love our habits. They make us feel safe, and make us feel motivated.

Do you notice a theme repeating here? Habit’s make us feel. Being able to “feel” emotions makes us human. This is why establishing good habits are helpful. They make us feel successful, happy and content.

The 31 Day Challenge

I challenge you to commit to this challenge for the next 31 days. Use these tips to help you become a better rider. You will be setting yourself up for success. My plan does not include riding every single day for the next 31 days, but it does mean you will be spending the next 31 days in some capacity working with your horse.

31 Days To Becoming A Better Rider

I am writing this with the thought in mind of taking just a few minutes every day and reading through each blog post title to give you a general idea of what you will be doing that day. All you have to do is open  up The Budget Equestrian blog and read the title.

And if you are more of a visual learner, you can jump on the internet and visit my YouTube channel, The Budget Equestrian. I have created 31 videos that will help you to continue your 31 days of becoming a better rider. Just look for the playlist 31 days to becoming a better rider.

First Things Next

And since this is our first day of being better riders, we do need to be around our horses, right? So that is what I want you to do, go out to where your horse is. Grab your halter, and go catch your horse. And I want you to go catch him, and bring him back to the barn or wherever you typically tack him up for a ride.

You won’t be riding.

Tie up your horse, or hold him if this is what you normally do. And then I want you to make a promise to yourself, and your horse. Say it aloud to your horse….

31 Days To Becoming A Better Rider

“For the next 31 days I will work with you. I promise to give you some of my time each and every day.”

That’s not too difficult is it?

You may be stepping outside of your comfort zone, but I promise if you dedicate yourself to this challenge you will be a more confident and better rider in just 31 days.
