30 Day Blogging Challenge Day 27-A style In Tack/Apparel I Don’t Like
Here we are at day number 27 in my 30-day blogging challenge! This is 27 days down, only 3 more to go! If you have been following this series for a while now, you will no doubt have a very good understanding of what my horses mean to me. As well as my goals, and plans. I found the idea for this series from the incredible blog She Moved To Texas, she did a 30-day blogging challenge and decided to emulate what she had done. And today is a new day, so a new topic, a style in tack/apparel I don’t like.
A style In Tack/Apparel I Don’t Like
I love just about anything when it comes to riding. I have no qualms about synthetic vs traditional leather tack. My dressage saddle is a Wintec saddle, which I love. So finding something that I don’t like is a little more challenging. But after doing some soul searching, I have one thing I don’t like, and that is low rise breeches.
I am not a small person, regardless of how hard I try. I have had 3 children, and my body shows it. I also enjoy eating good food, and my body shows that as well. When I put on a pair of low rise breeches, I have the stupid muffin top of my body spilling out over the top, which is frustrating.
And it seems that this trend is not going away any time soon. From jeans, to breeches. It seems a lot of the style is for the low rise, or waist.
This would be fine if I were 16 years old, and the size of a toothpick. But I’m not. According to the incredibly cruel BMI chart, I am just over the cusp of normal, and fall into the overweight category. And for the last year I have been working diligently at getting out of that category. But, I AM STILL OVERWEIGHT! I stay current with my lab work, and it shows I am healthy. No diabetes, no high blood pressure, my cholesterol is good, and everything is ok health wise but regardless, I am still overweight.
And English style riding wear really shows it. There is no hiding your weight when you wear a pair of breeches. And the low-rise breaches really show this! I think they would show your flaws regardless of how skinny or overweight you are.
When I put on any pair of breeches, I feet fat. Everything shows, and I think that is one of the reasons that holds me back from showing. I am embarrassed of what I look like in breeches. I feel as if I look like this guy….
I know I don’t, but that is what I feel like. I know that I do have to work on my self-esteem, and I have to be comfortable with my appearance. But it is a challenge for me. And let’s face it, some horse people can be rude, and make mean comments and have a tendency to judge others they are competing against.
Low Rise Breeches
I wish this is one trend that would go away, but sadly it seems to remain. If riding clothing manufactures would be a little kinder to the typical adult female rider, I know I would be grateful. And if there were a pair of breeches that actually flattered my shape instead of making it look like I poured myself into them, I would probably buy more, and show more. But until that day comes, I will have to try and figure out a way to find a pair of breeches that look good, and keep searching for breeches that aren’t low rise.
When I find a pair of breeches that work, and I feel comfortable in, I will definitely share them with you here. Because as show season approaches, I am sure I am not the only adult female rider with this problem. And maybe I can help someone else too.

Lisa you are beautiful inside and out and don’t let any person or pair of breeches tell you any different!
