Motivation – Get Up and Move!
VEDA challenge day 6 is here, and a new topic for you! In order to motivate yourself, you need to get moving. It is simple, and something I know you can do, because I do it every day. If you have watched any of my videos, have you noticed the black or purple watch looking thing I am always wearing? That’s my Fitbit.
My daughter bought me one for Christmas 2 years ago, and I have worn it religiously almost every day since. I am always checking the display to see how many steps I have, with my goal now up to 11,000 steps a day, it can be a challenge. But I can usually hit that goal, especially if I am going to be riding. Here’s a little fun fact for you….
When you ride a horse, you get steps that count on your Fitbit! Some may think that’s cheating, but, when you are riding, you are being physically active right? So I say if it counts my riding as steps, I’ll take it.
Another fun fact I have learned since using my Fitbit, it motivates me. And walking motivates, and inspires me. Just now, while I am sitting down and thinking about different ideas to write and talk about, when I get stuck, I get up and walk. I don’t know what it is, but the ideas start coming, when I start walking. This is probably why I can find so much stuff to write about! But it also gives me ideas of different projects to think about. Like considering building different horse jumps, or a new gate idea, or even different ideas of what I want to work on this week with Ethan. All of the ideas, and motivation come through clearer when I am moving.
It all Starts with a Plan
Are you wanting to start something, but lack the motivation to pull that plan out of your head to paper, and turn it into actionable steps? My suggestion is to stop sitting there, and get up and go for a walk.
It isn’t going to hurt you, I promise. And not only will you get your creative ideas flowing, but you will get a little exercise too. And if you want to track how many motivational steps you have taken, get a Fitbit. No, they aren’t cheap, but yes, they are worth it. Maybe the investment of your money will motivate you to get moving, and make that Fitbit worth the money you invested. Or maybe you don’t need that type of motivation, but it is nice to see how far you have actually walked, those steps add up!
And if you’re super competitive (like me) you can also add the Fitbit app to your computer or phone, and have competitions with your friends. I have one friend who consistently beats me every week, but I am closing the gap! So now instead of her having 6000 more steps than I do, she is about 3000 steps ahead of me some days. I am closing the gap!
Find What Motivates You
I’m not telling you to go out and buy a Fitbit (unless you want to). But I am asking you to find what motivates you, and do it. If you are motivated to go to a horse show, get a calendar, and make a plan for an upcoming horse show. If you are motivated to get your very own horse, figure out a plan to make it happen. If you want to start your own business, motivate yourself to make that dream a reality.
