Well after posting one of the most downer posts I have ever had to post, I thought I would follow it up with a more happy post, and a new challenge.
I really seem to like challenges don’t I?
About a week ago, I was scrolling through Facebook and I found a fun new group. Chronicle of the Horse started a group called Lose The Leathers November challenge. (This is a link to the group)
Which goes along with No Stirrups November that comes around every year. And even though it’s a little early to be planning for November, but hey, it will be here before we know it!
And I had originally planned on doing this challenge with Ethan, but since that won’t be happening, I thought it would be a way for me to honor his memory, and give Frisby a little something to do too.
Lose The Leathers
Letting go of your stirrups for a little while is good for many different reasons. It can help your balance and leg strength. It can help with your core muscles, as well as giving you something different to do with your horse.
And a challenge is even more fun with a bunch of people to root each other on right?
So this challenge will begin November 1, 2019. And it is being put on by Chronicle of the Horse. They have a Facebook group which you can join here.
And not only do you get to participate in the challenge, and challenge yourself, but they are going to be offering prizes too! And at first they said they were going to give a ribbon to the first 500 people that completed at least 12 days of no stirrups during the month of November, I don’t think they anticipated such a huge turnout. At the time of me writing this, they have 742 people who have signed up!
They said themselves they had no idea of how this would go over, and I don’t think they anticipated over 700 members before the first of October. So they might be uping how many ribbons they give away.
They are really pretty too!
I know I would love to have one of these ribbons hanging on my wall. And what’s motivating me to do this is to honor the memory of my boy Ethan. Sure I’m doing it for myself, but it’s a little more special, and important to do when I think of him. And that motivates me to get out and play with Frisby. Which is a good thing. I haven’t had any problems going out to the barn, and hanging out with Frisby.
In fact if anything, I’m out with him even more.
This is just something fun to keep my brain occupied, and gives me a goal to work on.
So if you are up for a challenge, and want a chance to win a really cool ribbon, why not participate? It looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun, and you can get a really pretty ribbon!!!!
They are even having special ribbons made for those who are amazing and can commit to riding every single day in November! I am wanting to say I can do that, but I’m not sure. But it’s a challenge right? And I am definitely going to give it a go though. I mean, why not right?
Ok, the rules are pretty simple. Ride your horse at least 12 times during the month of November without stirrups for at least a portion of your ride.
But they have a complete section of the official rules answering any questions you might have. They are going to be posting a calendar that we can download to our phone, or you can print it off and fill it out after each ride.
I think I will probably do both, I love lists, and things to check off! That way I can have my phone with me while I ride, and will probably use the Equilab app, and then I will have the printed off calendar that I can keep inside and put a big red ‘X’ on each day that I ride.
Bring It November!
So we have a month to get ready for the challenge, I’m going to go get my tack room ready, and let Frisby in on my plan. I think he’ll be up for it, it’s just a month right?
If this is something you would like to participate in, you can go join the group by clicking this link. It will take you to the Chronicle of the Horse’s Lose the Leathers group, and just ask to join. We have nothing to lose right?
I hope to see you there!
