Happy 2022 – Finally!

Happy 2022 - Finally

Oh where has the time gone! Long time no post right? Well, Happy 2022! Finally! I have finally made the time to post something on my blog!

And I hope your new year is kicking itself off well. Mine has been quiet, which has been SO nice. I have been spending a lot of time indoors, because well, it’s been cold!

Happy 2022 - Finally

And while it has been really cold, we haven’t had a ton of snow this year. But what we have had has seem to come within the last 2 weeks. And the temperatures have been frigid, probably like every where else. I have to say though that my horses have been coping with it very well. Frisby has been wearing his blanket for almost the entire winter. And he doesn’t seem to mind it. For me, that is a HUGE win.

Happy 2022 - Finally

In the past he has torn his blankets usually within the first or second wearing. But this winter I did something different. I used Plezant’s lighter blanket, a Rambo blanket with 200 grams of fill, and he doesn’t seem to mind it at all. And then when the temperature dropped to -14, I did put on his Avalanche super duty blanket, and he did fine with it. He wasn’t biting at it, or trying to get it off like he has in the past.

Happy 2022 – Finally!

Which makes me super happy, knowing that my horse will have a layer of warmth. This way he isn’t burning extra calories just trying to stay warm. I have been so happy with the Rambo blankets. So much so in fact that every time I find a great sale, I have been replacing all of my older blankets with the Rambo ones.

Happy 2022 - Finally

If you pay attention to the deals, you can find GREAT deals on the Rambo blankets. This past year, Jeffers has been having some incredible deals on Rambo, or Horseware Ireland Blankets. In fact right now, like at the time I am writing this, right now they have the Horseware Ireland Amigo Lite Blanket with 50 grams of fill on sale for less than $50.00!

And this blanket is very light. I like to call this Plezant’s princess blanket. And the reason for that is, when the nighttime temperature is less than 40 degrees, I blanket Plezant. If I don’t, when I go out to feed him in the morning, he is shivering. And I feel like a horrible horse mom. So once the temperature drops below 40 degrees, and he doesn’t have a winter coat, he gets a blanket. And this very lightweight blanket is incredible, again, in my opinion.

I have this blanket for both my horses. It’s perfect for Plezant during the less cold times. And it is super light, so not really any extra weight added to your horse.

I also updated Plezant’s mid weight blanket. You know the one I talked about earlier that I gave to Frisby? Right before Christmas Jeffers had the mid weight blanket (200 grams of fill) on sale for $50.00 too! So I bought it, and they delivered it before Christmas. That was like 3 day shipping! Way to go Jeffers!

And that blanket is on sale right now too for $69.99. Not fifty dollars, but still. It’s a great buy in my opinion. And I think this time of year is actually a really good time to do blanket shopping. Many online retailers have fantastic deals on horse blankets. Thankfully, I have all the blankets I need for my boys, so I won’t need to invest anymore money into buying new blankets.

Happy 2022 - Finally

For me, and my horses, blankets make sense. I know a lot of people or very anti-blanket, and that’s ok, blanketing is a choice. And I choose to blanket my boys. They are senior citizens, and it gets cold where I live. So for me, I like to blanket them. It also makes grooming time a lot more enjoyable, because the blankets helps them to stay clean!

Happy 2022 – Finally

They are both fuzzy teddy bears right now, but that will be changing soon. Both of them are already giving my hope that spring is on it’s way because they are starting to shed! It’s not a lot, but those long winter hairs are beginning to release. I am SO excited!

Happy 2022 - Finally

In the next month or so, all of this snow will be replaced with beautiful green. And the temperatures will be warm enough to start riding again! The days are starting to get just a little bit longer. And in the next month, with the time change, I will be able to come home from work and work with my horses! I am so excited!

Happy 2022 - Finally

Yes, soon I will be back in the saddle and working toward some new goals. More on that later. But for now, I am wishing you a very happy 2022. And here is to a great year for all of us! Happy 2022 – Finally!
