I have found the most incredible new grooming tool. I am not sure if you have seen it or not, but if you have wondered about this tool, keep reading!
I found this grooming tool while I was randomly watching YouTube videos. I love watching YouTube! I usually get alerts when a channel I subscribe to has a new video, and then I get sucked in to watching “recommended for you….” And before I know it, 2 hours has passed!
But I saw a video of this company showing this grooming glove, and how it works. I have to admit, I was very curious, and shedding season was coming up, so I figured I would try the gloves out, and see how they worked, and share my review. When they came in the mail, Frisby had already started to shed his heavy winter coat, so it was a perfect time for me to put these gloves to work! I would say with the help of these gloves I was able to get both of my horses shedded out in about half the time if I had been using my traditional method of curry comb and lots of brushing.
They arrived quickly (I ordered them from State Line Tack, they ALWAYS ship super-fast to me!)
The Nitty Gritty
This is for a pair of gloves, which is really nice, because two gloves means less time grooming, without cutting back on the actual process of grooming. The gloves have different patterns of raised nubs across the palm, and each portion of the fingers. I think this helps to collect the hair better when you pass the glove over the hair.
Once I put them on, Frisby was my guinea pig. He has a super thick winter coat and resembles a teddy bear more than a horse during the winter. I must say, I was a little skeptical at first but with 3 or 4 passes through his thick hair, I was impressed to say the least. These gloves are incredible! It is like you have a custom created curry comb (which is gentle by the way) for BOTH of your hands, making quick work of a furry beast. And the raised portion of the gloves are like nubs, and they massage the coat, while collecting the hair. Then you simply shake your hand, and the hair comes off!
I really like that these are gloves because your hands are covered while you are grooming your horse, so you won’t get as dirty, and no horse hair and dirt under your fingernails.
The Hands On Grooming Gloves makes fast work of currying your horse. And there is the added benefit of the massaging action. And I have never used a curry on my horses’ legs, until I got these gloves. Since it is a glove, you can basically brush your hand down the legs, and it will contour to the leg, and gently brush the hair. I have used this even on Ethan, my super sensitive thoroughbred without him flinching or picking up his leg. This proved to me it is gentle, and ok to use on the legs.
They are also dual use, so you can use them wet or dry. So if your horse gets deep ground in dirt you can use these gloves to scrub while you are giving your horse a bath as well. Two purposes, makes these gloves even better!
I would not recommend using the gloves on the mane or tail though, as I have inadvertently run this over my horses’ manes, and it did remove some longer hairs. Frisby has very fine hair on his mane and tail, so he needs all of the little hairs he has, so removing any from his mane is not good.
Should You Try These Gloves?
These gloves are not cheap, they cost about $24.99 a pair on internet sites like Horse.Com, and Dover Saddlery. You can also find less expensive imitators for about $8.05 each, making them $16.10 for a pair. But even though they are less expensive, it doesn’t appear that the quality is there. So if you are considering buying a pair of curry gloves, I would stick with the real Hands On gloves. And yes, they are expensive, but you will save time in your grooming which will give you more time to either make money, or spend time riding your horse.
As far as the durability goes, I am REALLY hard on my stuff. I am so hard on the things I buy, companies should use me as a test subject to show how durable something is because I will definitely push it to the max! I don’t do it intentionally, but I really use stuff! And so far, the gloves have held up to the rigorous use I have given them. My overall opinion of these gloves is that there are a great addition to your grooming tote, and are worth their cost. These gloves are tough, and from my point of view, they are well worth the price.
And just as an end note for you, I purchased these gloves on my own. I did not get them for free, nor did I receive anything from the company that makes these gloves. I just wanted to try them out, and if they were good, share my experience with you, in case you were considering purchasing them.
