Oh my goodness, this was so exciting. I have been meaning to post my video and the treasures that I found, but time has gotten away from me! So I am FINALLY sharing all of the treasures and the excitement of the open house that was held at Drifter’s a few weeks ago.
And this wasn’t just a tack sale. It was also a showcase of the horses that they are caring for right now. These horses are so lucky to have this rescue caring for them. And I felt very honored to be able to visit as well as share this incredible horse rescue with you.
Last month, I shared this tack sale with you the day before the sale. In hindsight, I should have shared it way earlier. My bad. But keep this in mind for next year! Every year, Drifter’s holds a tack sale, along with a showcase of their adoptable horses. The bargains at the sale are amazing, along with all of the proceeds raised are used for the care of the horses under their care.
So let’s start with the horse showcase.
Drifter’s Hearts of Hope Horse Showcase
The day kicked off with the adoptable horses being brought to the arena in groups of 3. Rescue volunteers showed off what these incredible horses can do.
The first group included Kiowa and Irish. You may remember Irish because I shared him way back in May when I was visiting Drifter’s for a new horse of my own. Irish is the palomino in the back of the picture.
He is a super sweet boy, but a little too much horse for me to ride, but on the ground and walking, he is incredible. He has such a fun personality! If I had the space, I would definitely adopt this boy. He is a sweetheart.
And then they brought out the next group of horses looking for their forever homes. I believe most of these horses are a part of the Annie Project, which is a program within Drifter’s that gives second chances to horses that have been used on dude ranches.
Dwight was in this session. And he is truly a sweet horse. Dwight has had some pretty intensive veterinary care, but wow, he is awesome to watch, and I bet he would be wonderful to ride.
He is beautiful, isn’t he?
All of the horses are beautiful and are receiving the best care from Drifter’s. Such an incredible organization and one that I am very happy to share with anyone and everyone.
Drifter’s Horses for Adoption
But not all of the horses at Drifter’s are riding horses. Some are just looking for a special person to love them and keep them forever.
Many of them are senior horses that just need a soft place to land and be loved.
And if you are searching for a pony, or even a burro, they seem to have them too.
Burros need some love too!
And during the showcase, they seemed to be full to capacity, with equines waiting for their new homes. And this is a beautiful facility where the horses get the best of the best care. Honestly, when I visited for the first time and decided to adopt my two horses, I was worried that they wouldn’t like coming to my property after spending a month at this equestrian dream property.
But even though this is an incredible facility to keep horses, the goal of Drifter’s is to find forever homes for the horses in their care. The facility and the love are just the first step in the horses journey to their new home.
Drifter’s Hearts of Hope Tack Sale
And after I spent some time visiting with the horses, it was time to get down to the business of looking for treasures at the tack sale. And holy moly, did I find some treasures.
I wasn’t alone, though. Lynda found some treasures…
And Vickie did too!
I cannot believe how much great stuff had been donated to this sale. I think my most favorite find was a Wintec Isabell Dressage Saddle. Sure, it’s not the size I truly need, but I am actually very comfortable in it, and it fits Timon very well.
I also found a beautiful dressage bridle with a blingy browband that fit Timon too.
Now, he looks ultra-fancy while I am riding around the trails or in my arena. So fancy! I have never seen anything like this before, have you?
I also found a measuring stick made of wood. Now I have always wanted one of these. Is it a necessity? No. Is it nice to have? Absolutely.
And I was able to measure Timon and find out he is about 15.1 hands. Now, no more guessing. I know for certain how tall my horse is. I know, not truly important, but it is nice to know these things, right? Do they even make the wooden measuring sticks anymore? If they do, I haven’t been able to find them. I know they have aluminum measuring sticks, though, in case you want one. But keep in mind, they aren’t cheap.
And the saddle pads that were there, holy moly, there were a lot of saddle pads! There was a lot of everything, actually.
But I found a treasure trove of saddle pads
I even found an Eco Gold Saddle pad
And a legit sheepskin show pad. Which I have yet to wash because I need to get some Kookaburra Wash in order to keep it in good condition. I will share more about this in an upcoming post.
Drifter’s Hearts of Hope Tack Sale
I also found an adorable leather show halter for Pumbaa.
Actually, Lynda found it and held on to it for me. Thank you, Lynda!
Look at this fuzzy little pony! He is definitely getting his winter coat!
I also got a jacket for myself and a Carhartt flannel hoodie, which is perfect for fall barn chores.
2015 champion, well, no, but hey, it’s a great barn coat! I know, I know, I am justifying. But hey, they were fantastic deals!
I also got a pair of Ariat Scout Zip-Up Paddock Boots, which are super comfy for riding and barn chores. They are much easier to slip on and go for a ride versus putting on my tall riding boots. Sure, they are worn, but they are also very broken in and comfy and even allow a little extra room for my heavier socks for cold weather riding!
For everything I bought, it cost around $250. Not too bad right? I mean, I got some incredible deals, and all of the money went to the best cause. I call that a triple win.
Drifter’s Hearts of Hope Tack Sale
If you weren’t able to make it to the tack sale, don’t worry, they have one every year. They also have an open house coming up in early December. So I would highly recommend you put that on your calendar. It will be well worth going.
And they always have horses that are waiting for their forever homes. So, if you are considering opening your heart and your home to a new horse, I can’t think of a better organization to visit. Check out Drifter’s website and Facebook page to take a look at the horses. Or give them a call to set an appointment to find your next horse. I promise you will be glad that you considered rescuing a horse.
