5 Habits For A Cleaner Barn

5 Habits For A Cleaner Barn

Keep Your Barn Clean

I know, it’s hard. Keeping the barn and tack room clean can be a challenge, but it doesn’t have to be. I have 5 easy habits for you that will help to keep your barn clean, and looking great all the time. You can keep your barn looking neat and tidy with a few minutes of work every time you go out to the barn.

5 Habits For A Cleaner Barn

I want to make this simple, so here are my top 5 tips for helping you to have a beautiful and tidy barn.

  • Everything has a home
  • Put things away
  • Clean stalls daily
  • Sweep every day
  • Clean as you go

Everything Has A Home

Have a place for everything to go. This means having enough storage. You don’t want to just throw your tack into a random pile on the floor. But let’s be honest, I have done this a time or two.

5 Habits For A Cleaner Barn

But if every piece of equipment has a home, it is much easier to keep your tack room and barn neat and tidy. For example, I use a large 55-gallon drum to store all of my rakes, brooms and shovels.

I have also re-purposed my boys old bunk beds into useful pieces of storage for all my horse stuff. It makes it easy to keep the barn looking neat and tidy when everything is put away.

Put Things Away

This only takes a few extra seconds to do. When you are done using something, put it away. Don’t just put it on top of a shelf or table. Take the extra 5 seconds and put it where it belongs. This is my husband’s pet peeve, when things don’t get put back where they belong. If it happens a lot, then you will end up with a mess, and not know where anything is.

5 Habits For A Cleaner Barn

Clean Stalls Every Day

Having a clean stall is important for your horse’s health. Think about it, you flush your toilet after you use it right? So why not do the same for your horse. Cleaning the stalls daily will help to keep the fly population down and it won’t take very long if you do it every single day. So make it a habit to clean your horses pens/stalls at least once a day.

5 Habits For A Cleaner Barn

Sweep/Rake Every Day

This just makes everything look great. It also helps to keep the dust down. By sweeping every day, your barn will stay looking neat and tidy. And I must admit, I love walking in to a freshly swept feed or tack room. It makes me happy.

5 Habits For A Cleaner Barn

Clean As You Go

As your feeding your horse, or walking into your tack room, clean as you go. When you open something new, throw the cellophane away. This means you need to have a trash can in the barn, or you can do what I do and recycle feed bags and use them as trash bags. They work great.

If you clean as you go, or use something, your barn will stay clean and look great all the time.

5 Habits For A Cleaner Barn

So, these are my top 5 tips to keeping my barn and tack room looking good all the time. It doesn’t take a lot of time or effort if you just do it. And after a while it becomes a habit. And having a clean and well-organized barn will give you more time to play with your horse.

How about you? What tips do you have about keeping the barn clean? Is there anything special you do? I would love to know! Leave your cleaning tips down below to help the rest of us!

Until next time, stay passionate, and enjoy your ride!
